Phrasal Verbs - Type 3
This time we are going to look at Type 3 phrasal verbs. These are phrasal verbs which take an object. The object always goes after the preposition, never between the verb and preposition.
Here are some examples of Type 3 phrasal verbs :
look after / look into / bump into / run into / break into / look for / do without
And here are some example sentences using these verbs :
- We usually get a babysitter to look after the children.(面倒を見る・世話をする)
- The police are looking into the cause of the accident.(調べる)
- Guess who I bumped into / ran into this morning!(偶然にあう)
- Someone broke into my car and stole my handbag.(泥棒みたいに強いて入る)
- I’m looking for somewhere I can change money.(探す)
- This book has been very useful for me - I could never have done without it.(~なしに成功する・~なしにできる)
Use one of the verbs above to complete the following sentences and listen to the audio to check :

- Apparently the burglars ______ the house during the night. They got in through an open window.
