前置詞は、英語の一つの難しいところです。前置詞自体は、ほとんど意味がないから、どう言う言葉の後にどの前置詞を使うのか、誰でも迷うと思います。

このポストでは、形容詞＋前置詞のよくある組み合わせを紹介します。

(1) afraid of … 何々が怖い

• Are you afraid of spiders?
• くもが怖いですか？

(2) angry with … about … 誰々に、何かについて、怒っている

• Why are you angry with me?
• 何で私に怒っているのですか？
• Are you angry (with me) about last night?
• 昨日の事で、（私に）怒っているのですか？

(3) different from … 何々と違う

• She is very different from her sisters.
• 彼女は、姉妹たちと全然違う（性格・見た目）です。

(4) fed up with … 何々がもう飽きた・うんざり

• I’m fed up with her complaints.
• 彼女の不満な文句はもう飽きたんだ。

(5) full of … 何々で一杯

• The restaurant was full of Japanese tourists.
• レストランは、日本の観光客で一杯でした。

(6) good at … 何々が上手だ / bad at … 何々が下手だ

• Are you (any) good at maths?
• 数学は、得意ですか？
• She is very bad at speaking in public.
• 彼女は、人前で話すのが苦手です。

(7) interested in … 何々に興味がある

• I’m not very interested in soccer.
• 私は、サッカーにあまり興味がないのです。

(8) married to … 誰々と結婚している

• She is married to an Italian singer.
• 彼女は、イタリアの歌手と結婚している。

(9) nice of … / kind of … 誰々が親切だ nice to … / kind to … 誰々に親切にやる

• It was very kind of you to help us. Thank you very much.
• 私たちを手伝ってくださってご親切です。ありがとうございました。
• Thats funny. He’s always very nice to me.
• おかしいね。彼はいつも、私にすごく親切ですけどね。

(10) sorry about … 何々を残念に思う

• I’m very sorry to hear about your accident.
• あなたの事故は本当にお気の毒です。
• I can’t help you today. I’m sorry about that.
• 今日は手伝えないよ。それは、ごめんね。

(11) sorry for … + ing 何々をして（しなくて）ごめんなさい

• I’m sorry for not calling you yesterday.
• 昨日電話しなくてごめんなさい。

(12) enthusiastic about 何々がすごい好きだ・熱心です

• He’s very enthusiastic about his new car.
• 彼は、自分の新しい車がすごい好きです。

こう言う前置詞の組み合わせの後に来る動詞は、ほとんどing形になります。

• I’m not very good at telling stories.
• 私は、物語るのが苦手です。
• Aren’t you fed up with doing the same thing every day?
• 毎日同じ事をしても飽きないの？
• I’m sorry for causing you so much trouble.
• 迷惑を掛けて申し訳ないです。
• Mark is thinking of buying a new car.
• マークさんは、新車を買おうと思っている。
• She left without saying goodbye. I wonder if she’s alright.
• 彼女は、「さようなら」とも言わずに帰った。大丈夫かな。
• After doing the shopping, they went home.
• 買い物をしてから、彼らは家に帰った。
